German AfD politician beaten to near death

In a clearly politically motivated attack, three men armed with wooden sticks have beaten repeatedly on the head German AfD Bremen chairman and member of the German Bundestag, Frank Magnitz.

Three men whose identity are still unknown, armed with wooden sticks have repeatedly beaten Frank Magnitz, Bremen chairman of the right-wing, anti-establishment, Alternative for Germany (AfD) party. The politician suffered major head injuries and the men also kicked him while he was already on the ground and is now battling for his life.

According to Bremen’s AfD branch, the assault occurred after Mr. Magnitz left the New Year’s reception near Bremen’s Goetheplatz.

“This is Frank #Magnitz, MdB #AfD. He was beaten half dead earlier by several attackers in Bremen. At the moment, I’m so shaken that I feel unable to comment on it. I will comment on this cowardly and disgusting plot tomorrow”, commented AfD national spokesman Jörg Meuthen on Twitter.

The identity and whereabouts of the men are still unknown, as police continue their hunt for the attackers but with the rising popularity of the German anti-establishment party, attacks over its hard-line policies against migration and other ultraconservative stances have been increasing, where last week the party’s Doebeln office in the state of Saxony was targeted by an explosion, which the AfD leaders have also denounced as an attack on democracy.
