Finland: Armed man attacks school in Kuopio

Update 14:47 GMT: According to the police the man also had a firearm in his possession during the attack. The police also say that he is “a native Finnish man“.

Update 13:05 GMT: According to a witness the man was a student at the school.

Update 12:34 GMT: Police are now saying that they have found one dead person inside the school. They’ve also updated the count of injured people to ten of which two are severely injured. The suspect is included in the count.

A large police operation is underway at the shopping mall Hermanni where the school is located.

Police confirm that they’ve used their firearms to get the suspect man in custody.

At the moment three people are reportedly injured.

Witnesses have said that an unknown armed man entered a classroom at the school and “started the violence”. Witnesses also say that he was wielding a sword.

The shopping mall has been locked down while the police are searching the premises.
