Croatia: 5 People Smugglers Caught: Attempting to Transport 48 Migrants

They were transporting 48 foreign nationals in total and out of greed, for an in-advance agreed upon price, and agreed to provide them with a way of illegally exiting the territory of RH (Republic of Croatia) and entering the territory of another EU member state.

Police officials of the Police administration of Sisak-Moslavina stopped two personal vehicles with Romanian licence plates on May 25. at 18:20 in Gređani, in the municipality of Topusko. The vehicles were driven by two Romanian citizens, one 48 and one 42, and contained a total of 24 Afghani citizens who had previously attempted to illegally cross the Croatian border on foot, from Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Furthermore, Police officials of the Police administration of Sisak-Moslavina stopped a truck with a Belgian licence plate, this vehicle was driven by two Iraqi citizens, driver 36, co-driver 34, on May 26. at 1:15 in Žirovac, municipality of Dvor. Immediately following that, they stopped another truck also with Belgian licence plates which was driven by a Pakistani citizen, 36. After inspection of the vehicle, 24 Iranian citizens were caught.  The suspected Iraqi citizens had in their possession a so-called vanguard, so they could notify the 36-year old Pakistani citizen of possible police patrols and other obstacles which are present on the transportation route.

After the completion of the criminal investigation, all five suspects were charged with criminal charges for the mentioned criminal offences and handed over to the detention supervisor of the Sisak-Moslavina Police Administration.
